Last week, I finally felt somewhat normal for the first time in six months. Pro football coming back made me positively gleeful. I was so happy I was even getting all the feels for the commercial showing NFL stars lip-synching to Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” (Gardner Minshew, you are the comic relief we all need during this pandemic, sir.)
Speaking of things getting back to the way they were — Insomniac has announced that Nocturnal Wonderland will be back in 2021, and it’s returning to the grounds at Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino County.
Also, there’s a blues fest streaming for free next week you might want to know about.
We also have news this week about some changes in local radio. Read on.
Nighttime is the right time
On the heels of announcing the festival Day Trip for next summer, Insomniac revealed details about the 2021 edition of its long-running favorite, Nocturnal Wonderland. It’s returning to Glen Helen Amphitheater in Devore and some tickets are on sale now. Get the details.
Entercom’s local alternative FM station KROQ 106.7 and country station KFRG 95.1 had some big programming shifts this week, both importing and exporting shows. Peter Larsen has more on those stations and the personnel changes.
Meanwhile, KCRW in Santa Monica eliminated 28 positions, and some on-air personalities are out.
Aliens and talk showsDisney+’s comedy “Earth To Ned” mixes celebrity talk show with alien abduction. Reporter Peter Larsen talked to comedian and writer Eliza Skinner about it.
A computer full of blues
Keb’ Mo’ and Robert Cray top the list of performers for the A Day of Blues virtual fest, which is set for Sept. 24. It’s free, but viewers will be encouraged to donate to various music-related organizations as well as the Long Beach Blues Society and Long Beach Gives. Get the details.
Free movies
The annual Cambodia Town Film Festival returns this week, and it’s going to be online because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But unlike many events, this Long Beach-based film event is going to be completely free.
Reopening progress
Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday an announcement will be coming “very, very shortly” on issuing COVID-19 guidelines that would allow California theme parks to safely reopen after more than six months of coronavirus closures.
Fall foods
You may not be able to scream on GhostRider, but you can stuff your face at Knott’s Berry Farm’s new Taste of Fall-O-Ween food festival. Here’s what’s on the menu.
