Former Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. is among Angels candidates

Former Philadelphia Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has interviewed for the Angels GM position, according to sources.

Amaro is the 11th confirmed candidate to have an interview with the Angels, who fired GM Billy Eppler a month ago. The Angels are expected to fill the position in a few weeks.

Amaro played his first 10 big league games with the Angels in 1991, and then spent parts of the next seven seasons with the Phillies and Cleveland Indians.

He was the Phillies assistant GM for 10 years, including their World Series title in 2008. He was the GM from 2009 to 2015, taking the Phillies to the World Series in his first season.

Since then, Amaro has worked in the New York Mets front office, and as first base coach for the Boston Red Sox and Mets, the latter when current Angels pitching coach Mickey Callaway was the Mets’ manager.

Amaro is the second confirmed candidate to have led an organization’s baseball operations department, joining former Miami Marlins president in charge of baseball operations Michael Hill.

Both Dan Jennings and Bobby Evans held the GM title with their organizations, the Marlins and San Francisco Giants, respectively. In both cases they served under presidents of baseball operations.

The list of confirmed candidates also includes current assistant general managers Matt Arnold (Milwaukee Brewers), Justin Hollander (Seattle Mariners), Billy Owens (Oakland A’s), Jared Porter (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Amiel Sawdaye (Arizona Diamondbacks).

The other two known candidates are Jason McLeod, the vice president in charge of player personnel with the Chicago Cubs; and Logan White, a senior advisor to the GM with the Padres.

Including Amaro’s title in 2008, the 11 known candidates represent nine World Series champions since 2004. Porter has won four rings, three with the Red Sox and one with the Cubs.

Mountain High to open Saturday, Nov. 14, for pass holders, followed by Snow Valley Monday

After a short delay this week following four employees who tested positive for coronavirus , Mountain High announced it will open on Saturday, Nov. 14, for season pass holders. The Wrightwood resort will sell tickets to the general public on Sunday, Nov. 15, according to the website. Tickets must be purchased 24 hours in advance.
