Pedestrian killed in Huntington Beach traffic collision

A man was struck and killed in a traffic collision on Sunday evening in Huntington Beach.

Officers shortly before 6:30 p.m. responded to reports of a collision at the Brookhurst Street and Hamilton Avenue intersection, according to a Huntington Beach Police Department statement.

Based on their preliminary investigation, police believe the man, a transient, was crossing southbound on Brookhurst, against a traffic signal, when he was struck by a Chrysler Sebring traveling eastbound on Hamilton.

The man was taken to a hospital, police said, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not released his name.

The driver, a Laguna Woods woman, remained at the scene, according to police, and was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI.
